We’re thrilled to announce that The Journey Back, our powerful VR experience sharing the testimonies of Holocaust survivors, is now playing at the Wales Millennium Centre. This immersive exhibition invites audiences to step inside the deeply moving stories of Marion Deichmann, Rodi Glass, and Doris Fogel—three extraordinary individuals who lived through one of history’s darkest periods.

Created in collaboration with the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center, The Journey Back blends cutting-edge technology with personal storytelling, offering a profoundly intimate encounter with history. These stories of survival, resilience, and human kindness are brought to life through a combination of 360 video, animation, and spatial sound, making for an unforgettable experience.

The Films

  • Letters from Drancy Experience the wartime journey of nine-year-old Marion Deichmann as she navigates the chaos of war, separated from her family but aided by the courage of strangers. A story of love, loss, and the unbreakable bond between mother and daughter.
  • Walk to Westerbork Travel with Rodi Glass through Amsterdam, Westerbork, and Vittel, discovering her powerful story of survival and the heartbreaking loss endured by Dutch Jews during the Holocaust.
  • Escape to Shanghai Follow Doris Fogel’s journey from Nazi Germany to Shanghai, where her family found refuge and built a new life amidst the turmoil of war.

Directed by UK VR artists Charlotte Mikkelborg, Darren Emerson, and Mary Matheson, The Journey Back was honoured with the Best Social Impact award at the XR Awards 2024.
